History
of The Enchanted Sleigh
In
1986 Susan Brack was a rural mother and homemaker. Without formal
training, but with a natural instinct, she often drew, painted
and created art for family and friends. With a desire to earn
income while raising her family, Susan began to focus on her handmade
creations. Selling her wares at local arts and craft fairs on
weekends helped her realize there was a market for her work. She
eventually transformed her country home into a studio and storefront.
Selling her art along with antiques, the shop soon became a favorite
spot for collectors.
As
the popularity of Susan's work grew, several design companies
and gift
manufacturers took notice. With the new demands for her work,
Susan found it difficult to devote as much time as needed for
the shop. In 1998 the store relocated to Centerville, Indiana.
Susan's mother took over the business which is now located on
a busy thoroughfare. Several family members have stepped in to
help keep the new shop stocked with antiques and other collectibles.
Centerville, which has a long standing reputation for interesting
antique shops and storefronts, is a perfect home for The Enchanted
Sleigh.
Susan
still works in her rural setting while licensing her designs worldwide.
Both Susan's daughter and sister are also integral parts of the
business. Rachel Sharp is an accomplished fine artist while sister
Connie Toschlog is an imaginative folk artist. All contribute
their individual styles to their work. From whimsical folk art
to English landscapes, it can all be found at The Enchanted Sleigh.
